How to use DIC software?

I want to learn how to use DIC to do something like what is shown in the picture at http://www.mne.psu.edu/PSGDL/    That is, take two digital pictures and do a correlation of them to create a visual representation of the differences between them.  It looks like the 2D DIC can do the job, but so far I can't find out how do the simplist things with this software.

Is there any source of basic user information like a User Guide, Manual or ? (beyond the Help file that comes with the program and don't appear to have the novice in mind) from which I can learn the basics?  The video tutorial would be useful if there was some accompanying voice describing what is being done and why.

I need the basics like: What file format must the digital photos be?  Is there a specific (max or min) file size required?  Do the pictures need to be in gray scale or can they be in color?   Are there sample photo files I can obtain that can be used to practice and learn?  How do I get this software to know I want to do a digital correlation between two photos?  How do I tell the software which two photos I want to use?  Etc., etc.

The software looks great and I think it can do tasks I need done, but there seems to be close to zero documentation for the novice even for the most basic operations.  I see all these great buttons and pulldown menus with lots of interesting labels and titles, but so far don't have any idea what they are for or how to use them to accomplish what I want to do.

Can someone point me in the direction of documentation for the novice?  Does such a thing exist?
